Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Opt for a Low-Key Wedding Amid Concerns of Backlash Following All-Female Spaceflight Incident

The couple is expected to tie the knot later this month in a high-profile destination, but is now said to be working with a smaller budget.

The reason for the change is connected to the criticism that Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez faced following the all-female space journey in which Sanchez participated earlier this year.

As soon as rumors started spreading about the upcoming marriage of Bezos and Sanchez, there was widespread anticipation regarding the grandeur of the ceremony.

Given Bezos’ enormous wealth of $220 billion, a portion of which was used for buying his superyacht Koru at a cost exceeding half a billion, these assumptions appeared reasonable.

Unsurprisingly, these rumors only grew further when the couple chose the high-profile tourist destination of Venice for their wedding.

However, according to a report by the Daily Mail, the couple intend to keep the wedding costs under £10 million [$14 million] instead of going over the top, as many had predicted.

One insider described the upcoming celebration as having undergone a “make-under,” while another source, a supposed guest at the event, described it as “understated” and “not an ostentatious blowout.”

The reason behind this more modest approach, as stated by the guest, is tied to the backlash Bezos and Sanchez received following Blue Origin’s all-female spaceflight, which many critics viewed as excessive.

“They understand that the space flight criticism was bad for a reason and are responding to it by being less ‘Marie Antoinette,'” said the source.

Speaking further about the couple’s reason for dialing back the bling for their wedding, the insider noted that they understand that going all out could symbolize social or economic inequality in a world where many people are struggling financially.

“People really underestimate Lauren and Jeff. Truly, they are good people. They don’t want the wedding to be a lightning rod for inequities in the world. It’s just a wedding,” the insider continued.

Still, despite the cuts and trims, “the celebrations are still expected to take place at jaw-droppingly beautiful – and exclusive – locations.”

Currently, the Fondazione Cini, a monastery and one of the oldest buildings on Venice’s island of San Giorgio Maggiore, is rumored to be the location for the nuptials.

In the past, it has hosted the G7 summit, suggesting it is a suitable location given the number of celebrities expected to attend the wedding.

Ahead of the marriage, sources expect that Bezos will have Sanchez sign an ironclad prenuptial agreement in case their marriage fails.

“Jeff Bezos doesn’t just want a prenup, he wants a prenup that will survive any legal challenge,” longtime California lawyer Alphonse Provinziano told RadarOnline.

To ensure that the prenup is foolproof, Provinziano believes that Bezos would have given his soon-to-be wife ample time to review it, while also being completely transparent about his assets.

“For someone as rich as Bezos, that means preparing documentation of the complex accounting arrangements and business deals he’s involved in so that she couldn’t later claim that he hid certain assets from her,” the attorney continued, adding that “it’s a lot of work for teams of lawyers.”
