Lady Gaga has written some of pop’s catchiest songs — and her fiancé. Michael Polansky, is supporting her every step of the way.
Gaga revealed during an interview on the Australian radio show “Will & Woody” on Friday, March 7, that she finds musical inspiration at unexpected times and has to embrace it when it comes.
“It can hit at inconvenient times for sure. When I’m writing a lot, it comes a lot more frequently,” Gaga, 38, explained.
Even though her partner, Michael Polansky, may be in the middle of spending time with her, Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, shared that he supports her need to pause and work on a new song whenever creativity strikes.
She expressed how understanding Polansky is by saying that he finds it endearing when she interrupts their activities to pursue a new musical idea. According to Gaga, he encourages her to follow her inspiration and write the song.
Gaga explained that the most inconvenient time she’s motivated to write music is in the middle of the night when she’s sleeping.
“I sleep with the phone by the bed and so sometimes, Michael will just hear me being like, [humming].” she added.
However, not every midnight tune is destined to soar up the charts and become a number one hit.
Gaga said of the late-night songs that missed the mark: “I hear it back and I’m like, man, I thought I was such a genius at 3 a.m. and this is horrible.”
Polansky and Gaga first went public with their relationship in 2019 and confirmed they were engaged while attending the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in July last year.
In footage shared via Instagram, Gaga spoke to Prime Minister of France Gabriel Attal and introduced Polansky as “my fiancé, Michael.”
In the radio interview, Gaga admitted that it is more important to balance her career and her personal life as she grows up than it was when she was younger.
“There was definitely 10 years of my life where I was in my 20s and I just was traveling and, you know, my life really revolved around my career,” she said. “I’m 38 now, it’s nice to have a full life that encompasses my friendships and my family more.”
Polansky made rare comments about the couple’s relationship in ELLE’s February 2025 issue.
“Accepting that you won’t have the privacy others might have was the hardest part,” Polansky said of adjusting to his fiancée’s fame. “But Stefani’s comfort with it and patience with me has been amazing. Our relationship is probably a lot like everyone else’s. We just have to figure out how to do some of it in public. That makes it even more important for us to have strong friendships and close family relationships. We find normalcy where we can.”
