Memorial service held for Jeremiah Kelly, Avon High School alum and Cincinnati football player, who died unexpectedly at 18

Remarks from family, friends, coaches, and teammates were followed by a candlelight vigil at Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet Stadium in Avon.

Avon Local Schools paid tribute to Jeremiah Kelly, a former student of Avon High School and University of Cincinnati football player, who passed away unexpectedly last week. A memorial service was held on Wednesday to remember his life and legacy.

Visitation and funeral services for Kelly occurred over the past weekend at Providence Church, where family and friends gathered to say their goodbyes. The memorial at Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet Stadium included a candlelight vigil, with emotional speeches and prayers offered by those who knew him well, including family members, friends, coaches, and teammates.

Kelly played a pivotal role in securing the Eagles’ first state football championship in 2024, ending the season with a remarkable 16-0 record. Despite his recent enrollment at the University of Cincinnati and participation in the Bearcats football team practices during the spring semester, his sudden passing has left a void in the hearts of many.

He died just six days after his 18th birthday.

“We went to all the college visits, just riding in the car with him, getting to see all his hard work pay off,” Kelly’s mother, Chiniqua, said through tears during Wednesday’s services.

Besides his mom, Kelly is survived by two brothers, Desmond and Josh. The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating his cause of death.
