ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was shot and killed early Sunday by officers after a fight broke out in downtown Orlando, according to the police department.

The Orlando Police Department said a fight broke out around 1:30 a.m. outside Thrive Cocktail Lounge & Eatery.

Officers from the department’s Crime Center were keeping an eye on the area when they witnessed a handgun slipping out of the man’s pants. The man quickly retrieved the gun and concealed it back in his pants, as reported by the police. Detectives immediately alerted nearby police officers about the weapon. As the officers were en route, the man reportedly drew the gun and fired a shot into the air.

Following the incident, officers repeatedly instructed the man to drop the weapon. However, when the man failed to comply with the commands, the officers resorted to shooting at him.

The officers involved in the shooting were not injured and will be placed on administrative leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducts its investigation of the shooting.

No other information has been released.

    An investigation is ongoing.
