Meghan McCain is sharing her support for former President Joe Biden after news broke of his cancer diagnosis.
McCain expressed her sentiments towards cancer, describing it as a terrible experience that no family should have to endure. She shared her support for President Biden and his family, sending wishes of healing, prayers, light, and strength their way. McCain acknowledged the challenging nature of dealing with such a disease.
She concluded, “I don’t believe times like these are appropriate for politics.”
In 2017, Meghan McCain and Joe Biden, who was 82 years old at the time, drew attention when Biden consoled her on the set of The View while she was visibly upset over her father John McCain’s battle with cancer. John McCain had been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor earlier that year, leading to emotional moments for the family.
Meghan revealed that her father’s cancer was the same type that Biden’s late son, Beau, had fought against in the past. As Meghan struggled with her emotions, Biden showed his support by relocating his seat to be nearer to her, demonstrating empathy and understanding during a difficult time.
“I think about Beau almost every day and I was told — I’m sorry — that this doesn’t get easier, but that you cultivate the tools to work with this and live with this. I know you and your family have been through a tragedy that I couldn’t conceive of,” Meghan said at the time.
Biden went on to reply, “One of the things that gave Beau courage — my word — was John. Your dad, you may remember when you were a little kid, your dad took care of my Beau. Your dad … became friends with Beau. And Beau talked about your dad’s courage, not about illness, about his courage.”
Beau died in 2015 at age 46 after his battle with brain cancer, while the Arizona senator died in August 2018 at the age of 81. On Sunday, news broke that Biden had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” a statement sent from Biden’s personal office to CNN read. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”
The statement continued, “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management.”
His family is currently “reviewing treatment options with his physicians.” Biden’s office previously confirmed that a “small nodule” had been found on his prostate during an annual physical. A statement said at the time, “In a routine physical exam, a small nodule was found in the prostate, which necessitated further evaluation.”
