Meghan Markle is a dab hand in the kitchen, according to pal Mindy Kaling.
The 45-year-old star of the Mindy Project revealed details about Meghan’s cooking abilities as the Duchess of Sussex gets ready to debut her upcoming Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, later this month.
Last week, the trailer for the new show was released, featuring Meghan, 43, preparing a delicious meal for Kaling in her and Prince Harry’s kitchen in Montecito, California.
During a red carpet interview at the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 5, Kaling shared, “I was on my maternity leave when Meghan texted me, inviting me to be on her show…to come to Montecito and have her cook for me.” She expressed her excitement about the invitation, saying, “That sounds perfect. I would love to do that.”
The comedian said that she considers herself an “OK cook,” but Meghan “unsurprisingly kind of blew me out of the water.”
“The thing about her recipes and being there is that it’s just really accessible,” Kaling continued. “She has a garden from scratch, which I could never do, and chickens … they’d probably all die if I tried to take care of chickens. I was like, ‘Oh, this is very accessible.’”
While Meghan’s husband, Harry, 40, was at home when Kaling visited, she didn’t get to sample his cooking.
“I heard he’s actually a pretty good cook,” she said. “He knows his way around a kitchen.”
Meghan’s new lifestyle series, set to premiere on Wednesday, January 15, “reimagines the genre of lifestyle programming” with Meghan at the forefront “blending practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends,” according to Netflix.
“I’ve always loved taking something pretty ordinary and elevating it,” Meghan says in a trailer released on Thursday, January 2. “Surprising people with moments that lets them know I was thinking of them.”
Produced by Meghan herself, the former actress will offer “tips and tricks” for life in the forthcoming eight-episode series, which will feature guest appearances from Kaling, Harry and Meghan’s former Suits costar and pal Abigail Spencer.
“Meghan shares personal tips and tricks, embracing playfulness over perfection and highlights how easy it can be to create beauty, even in the unexpected,” the official logline for the show reads. “She and her guests roll up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same.”
With Love, Meghan is the second series to be released under Meghan and Harry’s overall deal with Netflix. (Harry’s Polo dropped last month.)
Prior to the show’s official announcement, a source told Us Weekly in August 2024 that the series was set to “be a take on [Meghan] and the joy of living.” The insider noted that she will teach viewers “little things she’s learned in terms of being a modern-day hostess.”
