FOUR children have been killed after a car crashed into an after-school camp, cops have said.
Several others were left injured following the horror smash in Chatham, Illinois, on Monday afternoon.
A car plowed into the eastern side of a youth club building, hitting people inside.
The vehicle then drove out of the other side of the building.
Four girls between the ages of four to 18 were killed.
Three of the victims were outside the youth club, while one person was inside.
Six people were injured and most were rushed to the hospital.
One person was airlifted via a life flight copter.
The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Cops have not revealed if they have been arrested.
Footage taken from the scene showed a gaping hole in the side of a building, as per the CBS affiliate WBBM-TV.
And, video obtained by CNN captured the commotion.
“Somebody drove through the daycare,” one person cried.
“Killed some kids, those are kids.”
Police have not revealed a motive and they do not know if it was intentional.
Illinois governor JB Pritzker said he was left horrified by what had unfolded.
“Our community lost a group of bright and innocent young people with their whole lives ahead of them,” he said.
“My heart is heavy for these families and the unimaginable grief they are experiencing — something that no parent should ever have to endure.
“Let’s wrap our arms around the community tonight as we receive updates on the situation.”
Cops have described the deaths as a “terrible tragedy.”
Lawmaker Raja Krishnamoorthi, who serves Illinois’ 8th congressional district, expressed his sympathy for the parents going through a devastating experience, stating, “As a father, my heart goes out to these parents enduring our collective worst fear at this moment.”
The crash happened at the YNOT – Youth Needing Other Things – Outdoors after school camp.
The organization was formed in 2002 and it hosts after school, spring break, and summer camps.
The tragedy happened just days after eleven people were killed at a Filipino festival in Vancouver, Canada.
A five-year-old child was among the victims.
Kai-Ji Adam Lo, 30, has been accused of driving into the crowd and he has been charged with eight counts of murder.
