R. Kelly Causes Upset by Saying He’s Making 25 Albums in Jail: Is It Right to Support Him?

R. Kelly‘s claim of having a huge backlog of songs failed to impress some internet users.

In his latest podcast interview, the convicted singer disclosed that he made so much music in jail and now has 25 albums lying idle.

R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years for federal racketeering and sex trafficking offenses. Alongside his federal conviction, he also received a 20-year sentence in Chicago related to his federal sex crimes case.

Recently, the singer showcased his musical passion in a rare podcast appearance on “Inmate Tea with A&P.” During the interview, he entertained the audience by singing portions of his well-known songs like “When a Woman’s Fed Up” and “Step in the Name of Love.”

Despite facing legal challenges, Kelly emphasized that his love for music endures, labeling singing as “a beautiful disease that’s incurable.” He disclosed that he has penned 25 albums while serving his sentence and is concentrating on seeking a path to reclaim his freedom, using patience as a key tactic.

A federal appeals court upheld his racketeering convictions and 3-decade sentence in February. Following the judgment, TMZ gathered from Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, that he remains hopeful and resilient, emphasizing that they will continue to fight for his justice and freedom.

Listeners and the public were not impressed by his eagerness to roll out new projects from behind bars. Many internet users wondered why anyone would give him an audience.

“Why give him an audience? No one wants to hear a pedo sing,” this X user wrote. Another commenter described the situation as “cringe.” A third commenter saw the whole conversation and situation as “bullsh-t,” as another concerned X user asked, “what, who’s gonna buy this.”

This X commenter was simply “surprised he can do a podcast interview from prison.” One more user corroborated the story, writing: “Who are the two losers to out him on a podcast! Like anyone cares that he’s working on new music!All his music was about sex sooooooo.”

A last commenter did not sound so different from the rest of the users, theywrote: “Why are we interviewing him exactly? Why are women smiling while interviewing HIM exactly?”

Last year, The Blast shared that the singer’s daughter, Buku Abi, born Joann Kelly, came forward to recount the horrific details of the childhood trauma she allegedly endured due to her father.

Andrea Kelly, the ex-wife of the convicted singer, has shared her experience along with their three children in a new two-episode documentary titled “R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey,” aired on TVEI Streaming Network.

In this documentary, they recount their personal stories, highlighting the impact of Kelly’s actions on their lives. Despite these revelations, the convicted singer continues to deny all allegations of wrongdoing through his attorney.

Buku noted that the alleged abuse happened when she was 8 or 9. However, she did not inform her mother until 2009, when she was 10, in her words:

“I just remember waking up to him touching me. And I didn’t know what to do, so I just kind of laid there and pretended to be asleep.”

Buku eventually shared with Andrea details about an alleged incident, prompting her to seek justice by filing a complaint with the police under the name “Jane Doe.” 

However, she expressed disappointment, stating that the case could not be prosecuted due to a lengthy delay in reporting the incident. So, at that point in my life, I felt like I said something for nothing.”

Buku opened up about the profound impact her father’s alleged abuse had on her life. She expresses the deep emotional turmoil she faced, confessing:

“He was my everything. For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened. I didn’t know that even if he was a bad person that, he would do something to me.”

The singer’s child added that the whole event took a bad toll on her mental and emotional health, so much so that she cowered into silence and refrained from sharing her pain with anyone.

“I was too scared to tell anybody. I was too scared to tell my mom. I really feel like that one millisecond completely just changed my whole life and changed who I was as a person and changed the sparkle I had and the light I used to carry,” she explained.

Buku added that after she confided in her mom about her feelings, Andrea, her brother Robert, and her sister Jaah distanced themselves from Kelly and stopped visiting him.

She added that she still struggles with the emotions tied to that choice and her overall experience. Her mother finalized her divorce from Kelly in 2009 and has also accused him of abuse.

The aftermath of the alleged abuse left Buku struggling with her mental health and resorting to self-harm to get over the pain. 

“I just got to a point where I didn’t care anymore. I didn’t care if I lived or died,” she said. Buku recalled her mother noticing her poor state in a Target bathroom.

“I was washing my hands, and she saw that my wrists were all cut up, and she just immediately dropped everything, and she was asking like, ‘What’s going on? Are you OK?'” she recalled.

Buku continued that she “broke down” at her mother’s concern and had to tell her she was feeling suicidal. “I don’t think I’m OK. I don’t think that I can do this. I don’t think that I’m gonna make it through to live out the rest of my life,'” she disclosed.

R. Kelly’s name remains boldly written in the black book, and it is not going away anytime soon!
