Sabrina Carpenter Thought Paul McCartney Was Destined to Be Her Husband

Sabrina Carpenter is known for being a highly talented young star in the entertainment industry. Despite her successes, she also had her own childhood dreams, one of which included a belief that she was meant to marry the music icon Paul McCartney.

Recently, Carpenter had the chance to meet McCartney at the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year event, where Jon Bon Jovi was being honored before the Grammy Awards.

During a recent interview on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on December 12, Carpenter shared a fond memory of hearing a Beatles song as a child and immediately feeling an intense admiration for McCartney.

“When I was very, very young, my dad played me ‘Rocky Raccoon’ for the first time and I was so mesmerized by that song and the songwriting of it all that I fell in love with Paul McCartney,” the pop star said. “I was convinced that was my husband, my future husband, but he was quite old, and I was so young. I didn’t understand that he was much older than me because I was looking at all these photos.”

At the time, Carpenter mistakenly believed that McCartney was “young” and “only like 10 years older than me.”

“I didn’t understand math,” she remarked. “I was a child.”

A few months back, The Blast shared the exciting news that Carpenter, the singer behind the hit song “Nonsense,” had been named to the prestigious TIME100 Next list, which honors emerging talent across a range of industries. Carpenter’s achievement was highlighted as she appeared on one of the issue’s three covers—a significant career milestone.

The cover, released on Friday, October 4, features the former Disney Channel star dazzling in a bold red silk bodysuit adorned with a dramatic oversized bow. Radiating joy, the pop sensation strikes a playful pose with her hands raised, set against a stunning backdrop of lush green grass and a bright blue sky.

It’s no surprise that Carpenter earned a spot on the TIME100 Next list, especially following the success of her sixth studio album, “Short n’ Sweet.” Released on Friday, August 23, the album soared to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, amassing an impressive 362,000 equivalent album units.

“I called it ‘Short n’ Sweet’ for multiple reasons,” the artist said when discussing the album’s title. “It was not because I’m vertically challenged. I thought about some of these relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had, and they affected me the most.”

“I think about the way that I respond to situations, and sometimes it is very nice, and sometimes it’s not very nice. And again, the thing about albums, projects, writing songs, it’s all moments,” she added.

Carpenter took home the coveted Song of the Year award for her smash hit Espresso.

During her acceptance speech, the pop star expressed her gratitude to her devoted fans, calling them the “best in the world.” She also gave heartfelt thanks to her managers, family, beloved pets, and the talented collaborators who helped bring “Espresso” to life.

In the opening track of her latest album, “Taste,” Carpenter seems to drop some tantalizing hints about Shawn Mendes. Fans are buzzing over the lyric, “You’re wonderin’ why half his clothes went missin’ / My body’s where they at,” which many believe references Mendes’ infamous shirtless photos.

Carpenter also delves into the complexities of a rocky, on-again, off-again romance—potentially alluding to Mendes’ highly publicized relationship with Camila Cabello. In one of the song’s most talked-about lines, she sings, “I heard you’re back together and if that’s true / You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you / If you want forever, I bet you do / Just know you’ll taste me too.”

“Watched the new ‘Taste’ music video, and right after YouTube suggested Shawn Mendes… LMFAO,” one X user, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, wrote after seeing the video.

Mendes and Cabello, who dated for over two years before splitting in 2021, briefly reignited their relationship in 2023, adding fuel to the speculation.
