‘The View’: Sara Haines Awkwardly Backtracks After Whoopi Goldberg Gives Her Permission To Say “Black Men” Instead Of “Men Of Color”

Sara Haines‘ attempt at being politically correct hit an awkward snag on this morning’s episode of The View.

Everything started happening when the hosts invited Tyler Perry, the director of The Six Triple Eight, to join the discussion at the Hot Topics table. During the conversation, he shared insights about his experience with therapy.

“I really took your advice,” Perry told Joy Behar. “I went to therapy for the first time at 54, last year. I was able to really get in touch with some things. I’m living the freest, best part of my life at 54.”

“I have been bound by so much trauma, so much pain, so much heartache and heartbreak,” he continued. “You were right, Joy. You were completely right. And I would recommend it to anyone — the right therapist. Because the wrong ones will make you crazy as hell. But the right therapist, yeah, for sure.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin called Perry’s revelation “huge,” claiming, “men don’t go to therapy enough.”

“And Black men — men of color [go] the least,” Haines chimed in, to which Whoopi Goldberg assured her, “You can say Black men, it’s OK.”

Haines awkwardly tried to explain herself, telling the table, “Well, I meant also brown men and all the colors of the men.”

On the bright side, Haines didn’t make Perry cry this time. The last time he was on The View — in December 2023, to be exact — Haines had the actor all choked up when she said she “met” his late mother through his documentary Maxine.

“Wait a minute,” Perry said with tears in his eyes. “That one took me — oh, that. Whoa, how did it hit me that hard? You met my mother through it? Man. That’s — wow. Thank you. Oh, my god.”

Perry’s voice continued to crack as he responded to Haines’ analysis.

“To say that you met her through that, that takes me somewhere because she, you know, this woman endured so much pain,” Perry said. “And she didn’t have some legacy but she had me and to say that I was able to introduce her to you, you got me there, man. I’m sorry. [Expletive]. Lord have mercy. Thank you for that. I appreciate that.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
