In a recent interview with InStyle, Johansson admitted she was caught off guard by a joke Jost made about her on “SNL.”
“I just can’t believe they went there,” Johansson said, laughing. “It was like, old-school gross.”
During the joke swap segment, Jost and his “Weekend Update” co-host, Michael Che, read out jokes written by each other.
This time, Jost found himself in a situation where he had to deliver a particularly bold and daring line. He humorously remarked, “Costco has decided to take the roast beef sandwich off their menu. But no worries. I’ve been enjoying roast beef every night ever since my wife gave birth.”
As the joke landed, cameras cut to Johansson backstage and her stunned expression, making it clear she wasn’t expecting that level of crudeness.

Johansson, who married Jost in 2020, also reflected on the production team’s perfectly timed reaction shot of her stunned expression.
“The fact that it took on a full ‘To Catch a Predator’-style reveal or whatever,” she joked, “that was so intense. All of a sudden, it was like a whole bunch of people holding up lights and a guy with a video camera. They were waiting for me to react. I felt insane. I was like, ‘I think I’m going to faint.'”
