This weekend, there are new movies to enjoy on Video on Demand (VOD). One of them is Warfare by Alex Garland, inspired by the true story of Iraq War veteran and writer Ray Mendoza. Another film is The Luckiest Man In America, which tells the real-life tale of a game show contestant who outsmarted the producers of Press Your Luck.
Another interesting movie to watch this weekend is The Ballad of Wallis Island, a British comedy featuring actors Tim Key, Tom Basden, and Carey Mulligan. Basden and Mulligan play a duo of folk musicians who reunite on a remote island, thinking they would perform for a small crowd. However, they discover that their audience consists of a single superfan who brought them together using his lottery winnings.
These are just a glimpse of the films you can stream on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and your cable provider this week. Take a look at the available movies for purchase or rent on demand now.
Filmmaker Alex Garland has followed up his acclaimed film Civil War with another harrowing combat-related film, Warfare. Co-directed and co-written by Garland and veteran Ray Mendoza, Warfare is based on Mendoza’s real-life experience as a U.S. Navy Seal in the Iraq War. The movie depicts a real-time mission taking place in November 2006 during the final stages of the second battle of Ramadi, a battle that led to the deaths of over 80 U.S. soldiers. The large ensemble cast includes D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai as Mendoza, as well as Will Poulter, Joseph Quinn, Kit Connor, Michael Gandolfini, and Noah Centineo.
Based on the true story of an ice cream truck driver who hacked the key to the ’80s game show, Press Your Luck, The Luckiest Man in America stars Emmy winner Paul Walter Hauser as Michael Larson, a man who won over $100,000 on the popular show. When Larson discovered that the supposedly random light board in the game was actually just five different patterns of light, he was accused of cheating by some, and hailed as a clever genius by others. The film co-stars Walton Goggins, Shamier Anderson, Brian Geraghty, Patti Harrison, Haley Bennett, and many more.
