Selena Gomez And Karla Sofía Gascón’s Cordial Yet Tense Oscars Encounter

Despite Gascón’s previous tweet in 2022 where she referred to Gomez as “a rich rat,” the interaction between the two seemed cordial yet uneasy. Gomez, looking stunning in a rose gold gown, approached Gascón and exchanged a quick kiss on the cheek before sitting back down.
The moment caught many by surprise, as it appeared cordial on the surface but carried undeniable tension given their history.
In their shared project “Emilia Pérez,” Gascón plays a dual role, portraying a menacing cartel leader and the character Emilia Pérez, who emerges after the leader’s supposed demise. The story unfolds as Emilia seeks help from a lawyer (depicted by Zoe Saldaña) to reconnect with her spouse (Selena Gomez) and their children.

Conan O’Brien Roasts Karla Sofía Gascón Over Tweet Scandal During Oscars Monologue

The Oscars marked Gascón’s first public appearance in the U.S. since her tweet scandal, and while she attempted to avoid the spotlight by skipping the red carpet, host Conan O’Brien made sure the topic wasn’t off-limits.

The controversy surrounding Gascón began in late January when old tweets about Muslims, George Floyd, and diversity at the 2021 Academy Awards resurfaced.

Meanwhile, Gomez, best known for her role in “Wizards of Waverly Place,” has remained graceful in the wake of the controversy.
In a recent interview, she admitted, “Some of the magic” of working with Gascón “has disappeared,” but emphasized her gratitude for being part of the project. “I live with no regrets and I would do this movie over and over again if I could.”
