Sydney Sweeney Experienced Financial Hardship and Stayed in a Hotel, Saying, ‘It Seemed Like My Whole World’

Before the red carpets, luxury homes, and blockbuster roles, Sydney Sweeney was just a teenager trying to make the best of a difficult situation.

The “Euphoria” star, now 27 and one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actresses, recently opened up about a painful chapter in her past.

Sydney Sweeney revealed in a recent interview that she spent close to nine months residing in a Holiday Inn following her parents’ bankruptcy declaration, marking a significant disclosure in her personal life.

During the candid conversation with The Times, Sweeney explained how in 2013, at the age of 16, her family faced the loss of their residence in Washington and relocated to a small one-bedroom hotel room in Burbank, California. In this confined space, she, along with her mother, a criminal defense attorney named Lisa, her father employed in the hospitality sector, and her younger brother, had to make do without a kitchen or a balcony, and resorted to using a pull-out sofa bed for sleeping arrangements.

Despite the challenging living conditions at the time, with limited space and amenities, Sweeney reflected on how she endeavored to discover glimpses of positivity amidst the adversity.

“My brother and I tried to make the best of it,” she told the outlet. “We would joke around and say we were in ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.'” For those unaware, “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” is a Disney Channel sitcom that aired from 2005 to 2008. It follows mischievous twin brothers Zack and Cody Martin, who live in the swanky Tipton Hotel in Boston after their mom lands a job as the hotel’s lounge singer.

The Sweeney family’s struggles ultimately became a turning point. Now, a decade later, Sweeney’s life looks dramatically different.

Thanks to standout roles in “The White Lotus,” “Euphoria,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and 2023’s romantic comedy hit “Anyone But You,” the Emmy-nominated actress has built an impressive property portfolio that spans across the U.S.

She currently owns a mansion in Bel Air, a Tudor-style home in LA, a sprawling compound in the Florida Keys, as well as multiple properties in the Pacific Northwest. She’s also reportedly looking at real estate in New York, Texas, Italy, and London.

Still, as Sweeney’s star continues to rise, not all of her ventures are being met with universal praise.

This week, she raised eyebrows with the launch of a cheeky new brand collaboration, a limited-edition Dr. Squatch soap bar that contains her actual used bathwater. Titled “Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss,” the product is positioned as a nod to her Pacific Northwest roots and a playful wink to the internet’s long-running fascination with her.

The campaign comes shortly after Sweeney confirmed she is newly single, ending her engagement to longtime partner Jonathan Davino after months of speculation. The pair, who began dating in 2018, had been engaged since 2022.
