Taylor Swift Earned More Than $30 Million During Thanksgiving Weekend

Singer Taylor Swift became a billionaire through her music, but her book sales are certainly putting a pretty penny in her pocket!

The vibrant hardcover of “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Book” grabbed the attention of many shoppers at Target during the Thanksgiving weekend as they took advantage of Black Friday deals. Despite being priced at $39.99 in one store, the book managed to sell an impressive 814,000 copies in just two days.

Based on data from Circana Bookscan, a highly trusted source for tracking weekly book sales, “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Book” achieved sales of 814,000 copies within its initial two days of release. The only book to surpass this number was Barack Obama’s “A Promised Land,” which sold 816,000 copies during its debut in 2020 as reported by the Associated Press.

Although Target has not disclosed its specific sales figures for the book, the 256-page hardcover is priced at $39.99. While the publisher remains unidentified, the book itself credits Taylor Swift Publications as the creator.

Taking 814,000 copies and multiplying it by $40 means that the “Shake It Off” singer has brought in 32,560,000.00 through her book sales in only two days. Clearly, she won’t pocket all of that money, but it does mean that she has a solid hold on her billionaire status.

Although the book is mostly comprised of photos, some have speculated that a traditional publishing route would have been more beneficial to Swift. Many fans took to social media to share their displeasure with how many grammatical mistakes they found in the book, with some questioning if the book had been edited at all.

“People are lovingly dubbing this the errors tour book right now,” a fan named Emily noted in a viral TikTok. “When I got home, I was actually blown away by the amount of grammatical mistakes I saw. I saw so many, in fact, that I am seriously questioning if this book was even edited.”

For example, instead of “This is my trying,” from her Folklore album, the book reads, “This is me rying.” The “full list” of concerts is missing a Toronto date and some users have even received books with pages that are flipped upside down.

In the introduction of the book, the “Florida!!!” singer thanked her band, crew members, dancers, and backup singers for making The Eras Tour come to life.

She praised her “incredible crew, band, singers and dancers who all matched my dedication to the massive scale and challenges of this show” as well as her fans for showing up to support their collective performance.

“We do it because life comes in waves, in phases, in brilliant flurries of magical moments, and all of these things come together to create… Eras,” she continued. “Here is the official retrospective of the most wondrous tour of my life, my beloved Eras Tour.”

The Eras Tour, which was already long by many concert standards, was made even longer with the addition of “The Tortured Poets Department,” which was added as an era after the album dropped. However, adding new choreography was only one of the many challenges that Swift faced when she was preparing on her global excursion.

The Eras Tour, which started in March 2023, featured performances in 51 different cities across five different continents. To welcome her fans to the stage each night, she learned how to say “Welcome to the Eras Tour” in fifteen different languages in order to make each fan feel welcome.

The “You Belong With Me” singer has a lot of favorite songs from the show, but one moment that stood out in particular was when she performed “Love Story” in front of a crowd, as the line “Marry me, Juliet” sparked many a proposal.

“Many crowd proposals later, this era completely captured the nostalgic magic of Fearless,” she added, referring to the second studio album that she released in 2004. Fearless (Taylor’s Version) was her first re-recorded album, released in April 2021 following the 2019 dispute over her master recordings.
