The department released the following statement on their official Facebook account:

The Berea Police Department announces with deep sorrow the passing of Sgt. Ean Esposito due to an unexpected medical emergency this morning. Sgt. Esposito had been a dedicated member of the department since 2011.

During his time with the department, Sgt. Esposito held various important roles including being part of the Southwest Enforcement Bureau, a field training officer, a community engagement officer, a school resource officer, a defensive tactics instructor, and the department’s range officer. He played a crucial role in updating the emergency operation plan and ensuring emergency preparedness for both the department and the community. Sgt. Esposito also proudly served in the United States Army.
