Talent Digital Art has unveiled the upcoming release of a fighting game, Super Dragon Punch Force 3, that was born of a fictional arcade game in director Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World, which is having a world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival this weekend.
Mohr’s debut feature, produced by Sam Raimi, stars Bill Skarsgard as a deaf warrior on a quest for vengeance against a malevolent matriarch and is a visual mash-up of arcade games, violent comics and martial-arts cinema. In the movie’s plot, an arcade game called Super Dragon Punch Force II makes an appearance, and has been spun off in real life as a playable game in the Boy Kills World franchise, Super Dragon Punch Force 3.
Set against the backdrop of a comic book store named Zed’s Comics, game players will face a world of combat arenas and fast-paced matches. Designed with modern comic book and manga influences, Super Dragon Punch Force 3 is set for release in the second quarter of 2024 as it appeals to fighting game enthusiasts.
To mark the game’s unveiling, TIFF festgoers that attend the Boy Kills World premiere on Saturday night at the Princess of Wales Theatre will receive a QR code to receive the new product offering both single and multiplayer experiences.
In Boy Kills World, Skarsgard does battle against Hilda Van Der Koy, played by Famke Janssen, who heads up a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that left Boy orphaned and deaf and now to be trained as an instrument for revenge by a shaman, with Yayan Ruhian in that role.
The Toronto Film Festival continues through Sept. 17.
