The Real Housewives of Potomac’s Wendy Osefo is sharing her reaction to costar Karen Huger’s sentencing.
Osefo, 40, expressed her shock at the news and shared that she is keeping Huger in her prayers during this challenging time, as she exclusively told Us Weekly at the 18th annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 27.
Huger, 61, received a two-year jail sentence with one year suspended following a DUI incident in March 2024. The self-proclaimed “Grande Dame” of Potomac will spend one year in incarceration and was instructed to report to police custody after the sentencing on Wednesday, February 26.
“You were filled to the gills with alcohol,” the judge told Huger, per Fox 5 DC.
Following her involvement in a car accident in March 2024, Huger faced charges of DUI, DWI, negligently driving a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner that endangered property, life, and individuals, as well as recklessly driving a vehicle.
In December 2024, Huger was found guilty on nearly all charges. (She was found not guilty of recklessly driving.)
“Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we of course respect their decision and appreciate their time hearing our case,” Huger’s attorney, A. Scott Bolden, told People in a statement at the time. “We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf. We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and her family at this time.”
Also on Thursday, RHOP costar Ashley Darby, 36, said she “cried like a baby” after learning of Huger’s sentencing.
“I really do encourage everyone to keep Karen in your prayers,” Darby, 36, shared on the Thursday episode of The Tamron Hall Show. “I really care about her and I learned this on the train coming here today.”
Meanwhile, Gizelle Bryant — who helped launch the Bravo show with Huger and Darby in 2016 — said she was “shook” to learn her costar would be spending time behind bars.
“I do not have her wigs. I am concerned,” Bryant, 54, said during her Gizelle 21 Shady Questions Live at City Winery event on Wednesday. “In all seriousness, I am concerned for her safety. Karen ain’t cut out for jail. I pray that she’s OK and that the Lord is with her.”
During the event, Bryant also said she would “absolutely visit” Huger before revealing what she texted Andy Cohen about the case.
“We’re both giving our feedback on it,” she said. “One of the last things he said to me is, ‘When this show started nine seasons ago, never in my wildest dreams would I think that any of the ladies would be going to jail for five minutes — let alone a year.’”
