ICE is collaborating with the Glades County Sheriff’s Office in Florida to increase the number of beds for detainees by 500 amid the Trump administration’s intensified detainment and deportation efforts.
The Glades County Jail center will function as a staging area, enhancing the capacity to fulfill the immigration enforcement mission, ICE announced. Juan Agudelo, the acting Miami ICE Field Office Director, highlighted the central location of the facility as a factor that will streamline operational logistics and expedite the processing of undocumented individuals in custody for potential arrest, detention, and removal from the U.S.
This partnership represents the revival of a past intergovernmental service agreement between ICE and the Glades County Board of County Commissioners.
“The facility will expand ICE’s detention capacity in Florida, enhancing the agency’s ability to manage the region’s growing enforcement and removal operations,” the statement said.

“We must have the strongest law in the nation on immigration enforcement that will guarantee state and local deportation assistance, end catch and release, eliminate magnets such as remittances and adopt supporting policies that will protect Floridians,” DeSantis said upon the announcement.
