Price was born on September 10, 1942 in New York City of African-American descent. In 1960, she graduated from Erasmus Hall High School, where he was noted for both his talent and his kind and calm manner.It has been written that while a protégé of Langston Hughes, Hughes had fallen in love with the young Price.Hughes’s unpublished love poems were addressed to a man whom Hughes called Beauty; it has been postulated that these poems refer to Price.

Career


Price made guest appearances on several television variety and talk shows, including The Ed Sullivan Show, Red Skelton, Garry Moore, and The Merv Griffin Show. Price also sang oratorios, including Leonard Bernstein’s Mass, in 1971.
