A 20-year-old woman from Orlando is facing serious charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly using a stolen vehicle to hit a man in Hillsborough County, Florida. The incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon, resulting in severe injuries to the victim, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Florida Highway Patrol responded to a crash at the Interstate 75 exit ramp to Morris Bridge Road in Hillsborough County around 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a Dodge Challenger with significant damage positioned eastward on the westbound shoulder of the exit ramp, and a Ford F-250 located on an embankment, facing west.
Troopers were informed by deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department that the case was not a mere traffic accident but rather an intentional and deliberate act, according to an arrest affidavit.
According to the affidavit, a witness said they were traveling south on the exit ramp when they noticed the two vehicles parked on the right shoulder of the exit ramp.
The witness told troopers they saw a man standing near the back of the Dodge Challenger and a woman in the driver’s seat of the pickup truck.
According to the affidavit, the woman reversed the truck “rapidly” towards the Dodge, stopping short of striking the car.
After several attempts to strike the man and his vehicle, the woman accelerated in reverse before ramming into the Challenger, according to the witness.
According to the affidavit, after the collision, the woman then drove up the embankment and circled around and drove towards the man who was standing by his vehicle.
“The male waved for the female to stop the vehicle as the suspected failed to stop and again collided with the left rear quarter panel of the Dodge Challenger rotating the vehicle to face eastbound,” the affidavit read in part.
The woman – later identified as Armani Bellamy – then used the pickup truck to run over the victim, troopers said.
According to the FHP, Bellamy then chased the victim in the pickup truck when the man ran up the embankment to the tree line to escape her.
Troopers said the witness lost sight of the man and the woman before exiting their own vehicle.
The witness then approached the pickup truck and saw that the Bellamy had exited the pickup truck and tried “to get a ride to flee the scene of the incident” while the man was trapped partially under the pickup truck in distress.
The witness then detained Bellamy until law enforcement arrived, according to the FHP.
Troopers said that the man was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries that left him unable to provide a statement.
According to the affidavit, they learned that the pickup truck Bellamy was driving was reported stolen.
Troopers said she faces charges of attempted murder with a weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief and aggravated battery with great bodily harm.
