A WOMAN allegedly stabbed her mom to death after visiting her home on the eve of Thanksgiving.
Diana Bekatoros, 51, has been accused of murder for reportedly committing the assault at her parents’ residence in Dix Hills, New York – roughly 41 miles away from New York City – on Wednesday.
The lifeless body of Josephine Bekatoros, 84, was discovered with stab wounds in the house by her spouse after he entered a room to watch television, according to News 12.
He frantically called 911 after he discovered Josephine’s remains.
The motive behind the alleged stabbing remains unknown, but Bekatoros is said to have fled the scene and was arrested at her home in Long Island.
Bekatoros has been charged with second-degree murder and has since appeared in court.
She is said to have smirked and appeared happy during moments of the court hearing, according to News12.
The judge warned Bekatoros smiled inappropriately in the courthouse.
Bekatoros was arraigned on Thursday and denied the charges.
She is expected to be back in court on Tuesday.
The U.S. Sun has approached the Suffolk County Police Department for comment.
A second-degree murder charge is considered a Class-A-1 violent felony in New York.
If Bekatoros is convicted, then she could face up to life in prison, according to the state penal code.
Locals in Long Island have been left stunned at what allegedly unfolded.
“It’s terrible that in a small town like this you have such a terrible tragedy happening around Thanksgiving,” one man said.
The alleged murder was just one episode of violence that hit Long Island recently.
