John Ryder will face a considerable task this Saturday when he looks to break Jaime Munguia‘s undefeated record (42-0, 33 KOs) before he can earn another shot at Canelo Alvarez.

Ryder, with a record of 32 wins and six losses, is eager for the opportunity to face Munguia. The undefeated Mexican fighter who has emerged as one of the standout names on the boxing scene.

But although Munguia has proven to be a formidable contender, Ryder sees this fight as an opportunity to showcase his quality and fight Canelo again after previously facing the pound-for-pound fourth-best in the world in May 2023.

Ryder‘s desire for a rematch with Canelo Alvarez stems from that previous clash, where he lost via unanimous decision to the Mexican fighter. Ryder had proved to be a worthy opponent by putting on a competitive fight despite Canelo backed as a favorite for a knockout.

“Somehow I came out a winner,” Ryder said to the media. “It’s done my career a lot of good in the aspect that I’m still lined up for big fights. That’s why I’m here.

“I’m definitely looking for a rematch with Canelo. The biggest and best fight possible for me. I have to win this one [in a rematch]. Not break my nose, go in there, put on a show and take the belts from him.”

Ryder wants rematch with Canelo Alvarez

While the likelihood of a rematch with the Mexican superstar might be low, Ryder is determined to succeed in his career and ultimately seeks that opportunity.

He dreams of facing Canelo, a goal he’s had for a decade and hopes to demonstrate what he’s learned and what he’s evolved over the years.

“I think so [I’m a different fighter now than I was a couple of years ago],” Ryder added. “I’ve learned a tremendous amount about myself.

“I wish I would have had that fight with Canelo 10 years ago. I’m here now. The fire still burns deep.”

The Munguia fight represents a gateway for Ryder in his quest for bigger opportunities in the boxing world.

A win over the undefeated Mexican would strengthen his current standing to aspire to face the likes of Canelo in the future.
