Report: Former LSU WR Kyren Lacy dies before facing court in deadly crash case

Kyren Lacy, 24, was scheduled to appear in court for a fatal 2024 crash that killed a 78-year-old man. WBRZ reports his death was ruled a suicide.

According to WBRZ in Baton Rouge, Kyren Lacy, a former LSU wide receiver who faced a negligent homicide charge related to a fatal crash, has passed away.

WBRZ’s Investigative Unit reported that sources said Lacy died by suicide. He was scheduled to appear in court Monday.

The incident occurred when Lacy was driving a vehicle that collided head-on with another car on Louisiana Highway 20 last year, resulting in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. Louisiana State Police reported that Lacy was speeding, crossed the center line in a no-passing zone, and left the scene following the accident.

Lacy was booked on charges of negligent homicide, hit-and-run, and reckless operation and spent less than two hours in the Lafourche Parish jail.

Lacy played three seasons of college football at LSU after transferring from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

During his final year at LSU, Lacy achieved a personal best with 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. He completed his degree in December and declared his intention to enter the 2025 NFL Draft just two days after the tragic event.

Lacy was expected to be picked in the NFL draft in April. He had also accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl next month.
