Trump Taps Bozell to Head Up Agency for Global Media

Last Updated on January 24, 2025

Brent Bozell III, founder of conservative watchdog group Media Research Center, has been tapped by President Donald Trump to lead the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM).

The USAGM is an independent agency of the United States government that oversees broadcast organizations like Voice of America and Radio Free Europe.

X received gratitude from Bozell on Wednesday as he expressed his appreciation for the opportunity. Bozell stated in a social media post, “There is lots of work to be done. I look forward to meeting with Senators ahead of my confirmation hearing to explore how best to ensure the priorities of the President are met.”

Bozell’s post included a screenshot of President Trump’s nomination announcement on Truth Social.

President Trump praised Bozell, highlighting his 38 years of experience as the Founder and President of the Media Research Center. Trump emphasized Bozell’s understanding of the global media landscape across print, television, and online platforms. He also mentioned the Bozell family’s dedication to American principles such as Liberty, Freedom, Equality, and Justice. Trump expressed confidence that Bozell will effectively convey these messages to freedom-loving individuals worldwide and bring much-needed change to the U.S. Agency for Global Media.

Aside from Bozell’s nomination, the Bozell family received more positive news as Bozell’s son, Leo Bozell, was pardoned by the President. Leo, a J6 defendant, had been sentenced to 4 years by Judge John D. Bates in May of 2024 for breaking two windows at the Capitol and assaulting an officer. This sentence was significantly less than the nearly 12-year term initially requested by the government.

In his ruling, Judge Bates concluded that Mr. Bozell’s actions on January 6 could justify adding a terrorism enhancement to his sentence. However, the judge chose not to apply the enhancement when determining the final penalty, stating that given Leo the label of domestic terrorist would be too harsh.

On Thursday, WMAL Virginia interviewed Brent Bozell about his son’s involvement in J6, and the pardon that freed him. While his son admitted to breaking windows, and was willing to pay recompense for it, Bozell equates the charge of assault to “legal extortion”.  Video of the event in question shows Leo Bozell’s jacket brush against that of a law enforcement officer, an action that appeared unintentional.

“This is a man whose greatest prior legal offense was a traffic ticket; and now they wanted to equate him with Osama Bin Laden”, Bozell passionately stated. “I am so glad it’s over. Thanks to God. Hat tip to Donald Trump”, Bozell said.

In addition to his work at Media Research Center, Bozell was the founder of Parents Television Council: a media advocacy group that promotes responsible, family-friendly content across all media platforms and calls for advertisers to be held accountable for the content of the television programs they sponsor.

The CEO position, for which Bozell is nominated, requires Senate confirmation. If confirmed, Bozell will succeed Amanda Bennett, who resigned this week.
