Mum-of-two Alesha Dixon has candidly discussed her struggles with ‘mental warfare’ during her second pregnancy.

The songstress, 42, who shares daughters Azura, six, and Anaya, 22 months, with husband Azuka Ononye, explained she was ‘over the moon’ with happiness when she fell pregnant again in 2019 yet soon found herself weeping and emotional.

Despite this, she couldn’t understand why she spent so much time isolating herself from her family. The Britain’s Got Talent judge told The Mirror that she felt ‘down and sad’ but couldn’t explain why, which was confusing for her.

‘I would lock myself away in a bathroom and cry’: Alesha Dixon, 42, opened up on Sunday about her mental health struggle during her second pregnancy (pictured in Australia last year)

Alesha said: ‘It’s supposed to be the most joyful time of your life, but I would have so many moments where I would lock myself away in a bathroom and cry…

‘We can all relate to that mental warfare we have to go through where we have to navigate our way to a positive space in our mind to make life a little bit easier.’

The former Mis-Teeq bandmember’s struggles inspired her new single ‘War’ and she admitted the coronavirus pandemic made her want to return to music.

She added: ‘Life is too short and unpredictable. You don’t know what’s round the corner.’

Little ones: She is a mum to two daughters and regularly takes to social media to share family snaps with the tots

The Drummer Boy hitmaker recently admitted she felt having children had made her a better person because now she’s always mindful of her behaviour.

That is despite being ‘young at heart’ and having an inner-rebellious side.

‘My children keep me grounded. Everything I’m doing now is to make sure they have a great future and to protect them.’

Even though parenting can have its difficulties, Alesha forgets them all when she gets a hug from her children, which she sometimes finds herself begging for.

It comes after the couple jetted Down Under for Alesha to star on Australia’s Got Talent but was left devastated when COVID put a stop to the show last month.

‘Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions in Sydney, we have decided to postpone production of the new season of AGT to a date to be determined,’ a Seven Network spokesperson said.

‘A studio audience is a vitally important part of this much-loved show, so we have made the responsible but tough call to not go ahead for now.’

AGT was due to begin shooting in Sydney, but filming was postponed due to the escalating Covid-19 situation and was then called off entirely.

Alesha wasn’t the only star to fly in overseas the gig, with American actor Neil Patrick Harris jetting in from New York.

In order to follow Australia’s strict Covid rules, the international judges had to spend two weeks in hotel quarantine after landing in Sydney – and had only been released for a few days before the show was called off.

The show’s celebrity judges are all ‘expected to be paid in full’ for their time.
