A couple of cash savvy residents from Sydney’s northern beaches have broken down exactly how much money they spent after making their way around Australia for three months.

Taking to TikTok, Amber Moran, 21, and her partner Clark Russell, 25, revealed their expenses to the dollar, as the pair went road tripping on a strict budget – starting in Mona Vale.

In the first month, as they slowly drove north through most parts of Queensland, they clocked up just over 4,100km in their car.

Expenses included $791.50 on fuel, just under $1000 on groceries, $377.55 on caravans or camping grounds, $430.50 on takeaway food, $688.30 on car permits, $237.39 on alcohol, $320 on experiences and $352.16 on miscellaneous items.

With Covid restrictions ending travel plans for many, Sydney couple Amber Moran and Clark Russell (pictured) instead travelled around Australia for three months

The adventure loving couple travelled as far north as Cape York, before eventually making their way to the snowfields in Victoria on an epic three-month adventure

On some days the couple virtually had beaches to themselves as they explored the sights and sounds of Australia at their own pace

They spent a total of $4193.78, which was reduced in the second month to $4040.12 after moving through to Cairns.

Expenses for the 3552km journey on the open road included fuel ($758.99), groceries ($555.63), $183 (caravans and camping grounds), $371.55 (transport), $313 (alcohol), $225 (experiences) and $183.85 for miscellaneous items.

The couple, who playfully refer to themselves as ‘wannabe nomads’ on their joint Instagram page, even factored in $898 for replaced or broken items before preparing for their third and final month on the road.

This time the cost was $3432.74, as they drove back to Sydney before finishing in Melbourne, with 5677km on the speedometer.

Expenses were fuel ($988.02), groceries ($654.64), caravans and camping grounds ($492), takeaway ($513.60), snow permits ($289), $179 (alcohol) and $316.48 for miscellaneous.

Across the three month road trip, the couple spent $11,666.64.

‘It was a fun trip, we saved pretty hard before we left and then packed plenty in,’ Ms Moran told Daily Mail Australia.

‘We knew travelling overseas was pretty much out of the question due to Covid, so we decided to go around Australia instead.

‘We also have limited responsibilities, so it was the perfect time to go exploring together.

They broke down their expenses each month, including the likes of petrol, eating out, alcohol and staying in caravan parks

‘Queensland was fun, and to end up in Cape York (in Far North Queensland) was amazing.

‘We also enjoyed the snow in Falls Creek (in Victoria), it was great to see Australia the way we wanted to.’

In comparison to the epic trip Ms Moran and Mr Russell enjoyed, return flights from Sydney to Adelaide with Jetstar on September 9 for a week would cost $126 per person – before even factoring in other costs such as accommodation, food and entertainment.

Additionally, living large abroad – in pre-Covid times – would more than likely exceed $11,666.64 across three months for most adventure-minded couples.

Across three months the couple travelled from Sydney then further north to Cairns before finishing up in Melbourne, spending a total of $11,666.64
