A mother has been arrested and is now under police guard in hospital after she and her three children were found with stab wounds

A woman has been taken into custody and is currently being monitored by the police in a hospital following an incident where she and her three children were discovered with stab wounds at their residence in Baulkham Hills, Sydney, around 5:15 am.

There they found a 10-year-old, a 13-year-old, a 16-year-old, and a 47-year-old woman, all with stab wounds.

The 16-year-old, who is believed to use a wheelchair, was stabbed once and had a number of lacerations.

Moore mentioned earlier today that a fifth individual, suspected to be the children’s father, located a kitchen knife allegedly used in the stabbings and got in touch with the authorities.

“We believe the father was in the home at the time,” Moore said.

“We believe the father and the children were all in their rooms and potentially all of them asleep when the mother has carried out this act.

“Awakened by what seemed to be cries or shouts, he then intervened and reportedly managed to acquire the weapon before calling the police for assistance.”

She said the family had no history of domestic violence and were not known to police.

All three children were believed to be in their rooms when the stabbing took place.

Police have not yet spoken to the 47-year-old woman, who is undergoing treatment, and no charges have yet been laid.

It is understood police are not looking for any other person.

The children are expected to make a full recovery.
