Ariana Grande and Frankie Grande’s Bond

Ariana has been a household name for quite some time. But few knew that her brother Frankie’s work on Broadway sparked her interest in the performing arts.

In a January 2022 interview with Emile Ennis, Frankie said he and his half-sister bonded over their love for musical theater. Frankie said he was in musicals when Ariana was growing up.

Before he could share his interest with Ariana, Frankie said his mother initially introduced him to the world of musical theater. The multihyphenate later passed down his love for stage musicals to Ariana.

The fact that the pop star grew up watching all of Frankie’s performances only increased her admiration for his dedication. Frankie said of Ariana:

“She just kind of took after me, and we just kind of always, always bonded over that.”

Around the age of eight, Frankie remembered his half-sister playing Annie on stage, which was her first foray into Broadway musicals. He felt proud that Ariana had finally tried her hand at Broadway.

Frankie has yet to share a stage with Ariana, but the latter recently revealed that if the two co-starred in a Broadway production, she hoped they could perform “Rent.”

Furthermore, the two are fans of the “Harry Potter” films. While Frankie has a massive Hogwarts collection, Ariana owns a Slytherin-themed headband. She even wrote a song for actor Tom Felton’s Draco Malfoy.

Frankie once struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. He shared that his past drug use put a distance between him, his sister Ariana and his mother, Joan. He recalled pushing them away and prioritizing partying over family ties.

Over a decade, they saw less and less of him. Reflecting on what led him to addiction, Frankie said that while he was never bullied in high school, he had to deal with it as an adult.

He admitted to being unable to handle it well, as he turned to drugs and alcohol. He claimed to have been sober for the four months he spent on “Big Brother.” Unfortunately, he began drinking again after his stint on the show.

A tragedy motivated Frankie to get sober. The Manchester bombing served as a wake-up call for him. A terrorist attack happened during his younger sister Ariana’s concert at the Manchester Arena on May 22, 2017.

Frankie had always been there for his family, but owing to his mental state at that time, he could not help them fully. He used to be the problem solver, but no one turned to him for advice in the wake of the tragedy.

This realization inspired him to overcome his addiction. But getting sober has strengthened his voice and relationships, saying he is much closer to Ariana and his mom.

His family has been a huge part of his support system. Frankie recalled being nervous about coming out to his sister. The reality star said he held off telling his family he was gay until he was in a relationship.

He was relieved when Ariana did not fuss over his confession, quoting her as simply asking, “Cool, do you have a boyfriend?” Although he had not anticipated how easy it was to come out, he was pleased with how well it went.

In June 2021, Frankie announced his engagement to his fiance, Hale Leon. Ariana quickly congratulated the couple on their latest milestone, and she even wrote in her Instagram Story how much she loves “the most incredible men” she knows.

The sweet engagement happened after Ariana married her husband, Dalton Gomez, in May 2021. Frankie even made an appearance at her wedding, which he described as “nerdy and quirky.”

He reflected on his sister’s wedding, saying it mirrored Ariana and her husband’s authenticity. He said the couple’s married life makes him happy, and their love inspires him.

Despite their hectic schedules, the siblings still make time for one other. Frankie said they are constantly communicating. He stated that he and his sister spend up to an hour daily on FaceTime.

He said Ariana is his best friend and someone he is proudest of. Frankie also described their relationship as “very yin and yang,” claiming that Ariana’s calm demeanor balances out his wild personality.

Frankie said he helped raise the singer and is happy to be a part of her journey to reaching her goals.

The two know how to have fun even when hanging out at home. Frankie said that he and the “One Last Time” hitmaker are constantly singing songs and performing when they are together at home.
