CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — An Aurora man was found guilty in a deadly hit-and-run that occurred in Parker in 2023.
A jury determined on Thursday that Tory Conyers, aged 46, was responsible for vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, evading law enforcement, theft, and dangerous driving due to a hit-and-run incident on Aug. 21, 2023, which occurred after a shoplifting incident at a Walmart.
Prosecutors stated that Conyers was captured on surveillance footage stealing a cart full of goods from a Wal-Mart in Parker. Following a lead from a witness, the police pursued Conyers in an attempt to apprehend him, but their efforts were in vain.
At the corner of Parker Rd. and Lincoln, they said, Conyers ran a red light and struck a truck, killing 51-year-old pedestrian Jossy Fernando Pinto.
Deputy District Attorney Jon Steinberg of the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office commented, “Tory Conyers made the decision to engage in shoplifting from local establishments that day, and subsequently fled from law enforcement before fatally hitting and killing an innocent individual. Although he tried to escape the scene, justice prevailed with his conviction.”
Conyers was later arrested after the public provided crucial tips, prosecutor said.
“This conviction was secured thanks to the critical information provided by our community. Without their support and collaboration with the Parker Police Department, this defendant would not have been identified, apprehended, and held accountable,” said Deputy DA Chandler Neumann.
Sentencing will take place May 12. Conyers faces up to 18 years in prison.
