Big 2nd quarter propels Cleveland State women's basketball to 67-53 win over Youngstown State

The Cleveland State Vikings secured their third consecutive victory by defeating the Youngstown State Penguins with a strong performance. Sara Guerreiro was the standout player for CSU, contributing 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead her team to a 67-53 victory at Woodling Gymnasium.

In a dominant display, the Vikings outscored the Penguins 24-9 in the second quarter, showcasing their prowess on the court. With this win, Cleveland State improved their record to 16-4 overall and 8-2 in the Horizon League, highlighting their position as a formidable team in the competition.

Guerreiro’s impressive performance was supported by Jordana Reisma, who also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. This victory marked the fourth double-double of the season for both Guerreiro and Reisma, demonstrating their consistency and impact in the Vikings’ lineup.

Jewel Watkins had 15 points and five boards for YSU (8-12, 3-7). The Pens have dropped 8 of 10 as well as their last five to the in-state rival Vikes dating back to the 2022-23 season.

Cleveland State will host Ohio Christian on Saturday in the team’s final nonconference game of the year.
