A Lakeland man lost his life in a tragic head-on collision in Pasco County, Florida. The incident also left three other Central Floridians with severe injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. on U.S. 98, south of Stranton Hall Drive, troopers said.
The crash involved a Genesis GV80 being driven by a 28-year-old man from Orlando traveling south on U.S. 98 and a Kia Soul heading north, driven by a 51-year-old man from Lakeland. The Orlando driver tried to overtake another vehicle and ended up colliding with the Kia, resulting in a fatal impact at the scene.
The Genesis and Kia came to final rest in the travel lanes and shoulder, respectively, troopers said.
Tragically, the Lakeland driver passed away on site, while two passengers in his car, a 43-year-old man from Orlando and a 28-year-old woman from Kissimmee, sustained serious injuries and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. The Orlando driver operating the Genesis also suffered injuries warranting medical attention, as per the FHP report.
