AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place on Sunday afternoon at Patterson Park.
Officers responded to reports of gunshots in the park around 3 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a 21-year-old man unconscious on the ground near the basketball courts.
EMS and a member of the city’s medical examiner’s office said the victim was struck by gunfire “multiple times.”
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police indicate that the circumstances that culminated in the shooting remain unclear. However, witnesses reported seeing a vehicle leaving the area following the incident.
Over a dozen rifle casings were found nearby after officers opened their investigation.
Police are actively working to determine the identity of a suspect or suspects in the shooting.
