Police believe that a 24-year-old and another individual went to the residence, knocked on the door, forcibly entered, and attacked a man who was inside before being shot.
A 24-year-old man was shot dead after being involved in an “altercation” inside an Akron home early Sunday morning with the alleged shooter claiming it was in self-defense, police said.
The incident took place at a residence in the 1900 block of Garden Court just before 4 a.m., according to an Akron Police Department press release.
Witnesses told police the 24-year-old and another man had knocked on the door of the residence and “rushed in when the door was opened.” The 24-year-old shooting victim then allegedly assaulted a 23-year-old man inside the home.
It was during this fight that a 19-year-old man allegedly grabbed his gun and fired one shot at the 24-year-old.
The 24-year-old left the apartment and later collapsed outside, police said.
Officers detained “multiple people” at the residence, including the suspected shooter.
“The shooter and other subjects were interviewed and later released by detectives while they continued to probe the circumstances, including the self-defense claim surrounding the fatal shooting,” the police department said.
