Flood Watch issued for most of Northeast Ohio with heavy rain on the way

We’re tracking some heavy rain for all of Northeast Ohio this weekend.

Cleveland is under a Flood Watch for most of Northeast Ohio starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and ending at 8 a.m. on Sunday. The National Weather Service in Cleveland warns of multiple rounds of showers and storms causing heavy rainfall in the region.

“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” according to the NWS.

3News Senior Meteorologist Matt Wintz says we’re expecting anywhere from 3-6 inches of rain areawide.

“This weekend is going to be doozy in terms of rainfall amounts,” he said.

These are the counties included in the Flood Watch:

  • Ashland
  • Carroll
  • Coshocton
  • Cuyahoga
  • Erie
  • Holmes
  • Huron
  • Lorain
  • Medina
  • Ottawa
  • Richland
  • Sandusky
  • Seneca
  • Stark
  • Summit
  • Tuscarawas
  • Wayne

The wet weather began with strong storms Wednesday into Thursday. But plenty more is coming this weekend.

“A real good round of rain arriving Friday night into Saturday morning,” Wintz says. “Could have some flooding problems Saturday morning.”

The rain continues Saturday into Sunday as well.
