AURORA, Colo. — Police arrested a man who barricaded himself inside an Aurora condo for several hours Saturday morning.
The Aurora police reported that a man unlawfully entered a condominium near S. Parker Road and S. Dayton Street following a crash involving a stolen vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries have been documented as a result.
Residents of Rain Tree Condos were asked to shelter in place, but that order has since been lifted.
The sequence of events commenced several hours before when Arapahoe County deputies spotted the stolen vehicle with a man and a woman inside and endeavored to conduct a traffic stop.
However, the suspects failed to stop and took off from pursuing deputies, police said.
Chad Cernich, a division chief at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, stated, “They attempted to pull the vehicle over, but it quickly accelerated away from them. The deputies lost track of the vehicle around Parker Road and Florida and decided to turn off their emergency lights and sirens.”

A short time later, the suspects were involved in a crash with another vehicle at the S. Parker Road and S. Dayton Street intersection.
Following the crash, the suspects fled the area on foot and tried to enter a nearby condo but were unsuccessful as they were interrupted by the homeowner, police said.
Police said the woman was taken into custody following the crash.
Moments later, police observed the male suspect forcibly enter a second unit in the 9900 block of E. Evans Avenue.
Police negotiations lasted several hours Saturday morning until tear gas was used to force the suspect out of the home.
He was placed into custody without further incident.
A condo owner talked to media and said he was grateful for the police response and how the department handled the call.
“I just appreciate the Aurora PD for coming out here and, you know, doing what they do,” he said. “They managed to get [him] out safely. They could have went a whole different, other way. You know, they took the lives and the people around them into consideration.”
The identities of the two suspects and possible charges have yet to be released.
