It was reported by the Aurora Police Department that a police officer in Aurora was part of a shooting incident that resulted in a fatality on Saturday night. The tragic event occurred during a domestic disturbance call.
During the incident, a 58-year-old man from Aurora was fatally shot by the police after he reportedly took out a handgun and aimed it at the officers in a garage located at a residence in the 15800 block of E. Arkansas Drive.
According to the police, the situation originated from a domestic dispute involving a married couple. Upon the officers’ arrival at the location, the couple separated, and the husband proceeded to the garage.
Police said the shooting occurred when the man produced a handgun from a toolbox and pointed it at officers while refusing to put the weapon down.
The shooting victim’s identity has not been released.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
Independent and internal investigations are underway to determine whether the officer’s actions complied with state law and agency procedures.
