Hospital officials have confirmed that the gunman is dead and that no patients were injured. The public is being asked to avoid the area.
YORK, Pa. — Update, 1 p.m.: According to the Associated Press, a hospital gunman was killed after shots were fired at UPMC Memorial.
According to the hospital officials who spoke to AP, no patients were harmed in the incident, and the perpetrator has been reported dead. The extent of any additional injuries sustained remains unclear.
Law enforcement remains on the premises and is managing the situation, the hospital said.
Previously: An active threat at UPMC Memorial in West Manchester Township, York County is over, according to the County’s public information officer.
The PIO said the threat “has been neutralized.”
People are being asked to avoid the area near the hospital, as police investigate.
Details are limited at this time, but there is a large police presence at UPMC Memorial, located at 1701 Innovation Drive.
A witness called FOX43 and stated that multiple people were shot inside the hospital.
An investigation is underway.
