A 28-year-old man from Casselberry, Florida, is facing charges after colliding with a bicyclist in Seminole County and then fleeing the scene. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the bicyclist tragically passed away the next day as a result of the incident.
Troopers said that around 3:16 p.m., a Ford F-150 was traveling north on Creeks Bend Drive at the intersection of Red Bug Lake Road.
According to the crash report, the bicyclist was headed west on the sidewalk of Red Bug Lake Road and proceeded to cross the intersection at the marked crosswalk.
Authorities stated that the pickup truck driver did not give the right of way to the bicyclist. As the driver turned right to head east on Red Bug Lake Road, the front of the Ford vehicle collided with the cyclist.
The bicyclist, identified as a 62-year-old Casselberry man, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, the FHP said.
After the crash, the driver of the pickup left the scene and drove east on Red Bug Lake Road. A witness followed the truck and provided information to law enforcement, according to the report.
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office was able to locate the unoccupied truck in a nearby parking lot, troopers said.
Deputies “observed a male matching the description” of the driver who then entered the pickup truck, according to the report.
Troopers arrived at the scene, and after conducting a hit-and-run investigation, arrested the driver – identified as 26-year-old Kyle Izbicky – for leaving the scene of a crash with serious injuries, the FHP said.
According to the report, Izbicky was booked into the Seminole County jail.
Troopers said that on Saturday, the bicyclist died at the hospital.
Upgraded charges are pending, the FHP said. The crash remains under investigation.
