BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. — A Florida boy who was taken by his biological father was located in Breckenridge on Tuesday.
The Breckenridge Police Department was contacted by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday morning at around 10:30 a.m. regarding a missing boy who was possibly in Colorado. Reportedly, the child was in the company of his biological father, Ryan Brown from Sarasota, Florida, who had recently lost custody rights.
Upon tracing a vehicle linked to Brown to a residence on North French Street, a surveillance perimeter was established by Breckenridge PD in collaboration with deputies from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office in an attempt to reach out to Brown.
After conversing with residents, it was discovered that Brown and the child were inside the premises. Breckenridge PD then deployed an armored rescue vehicle and additional resources to the location as a precautionary measure, even though there was no perceived threat to public safety. A shelter-in-place directive was also issued for the neighboring residents.
The department said it negotiated a peaceful surrender through Brown’s attorney. Brown was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant, and the child is safe, according to police.
