ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Guests at SeaWorld Orlando will soon be able to see what’s billed as the Western Hemisphere’s only emperor penguins.
Visitors at the theme park’s Antarctica Realm will now get a chance to see the largest penguin species starting from Saturday, June 14. Prior to this, passholder previews took place for two days, commencing on Thursday.
Jon Peterson, who is the park president of SeaWorld Orlando, expressed his enthusiasm for this rare opportunity. He mentioned in a statement, “This is an incredibly rare and exciting opportunity for guests to encounter one of nature’s most extraordinary species”. Peterson further added, “We’re proud to continue SeaWorld’s legacy of penguin care and conservation, while giving our guests a rare chance to connect with these animals in remarkable ways.”
The emperor penguins currently residing in Florida were transferred from SeaWorld San Diego. The latter has been renowned for spearheading global efforts in the care and breeding of emperor penguins dating back to the early 1980s, as per a news release.
The new encounter coincides with a penguin-themed art installation in downtown Orlando, where SeaWorld has partnered with Creative City Project to display giant inflatable penguins on select rooftops through June 19.
