Closed due to illness: Classes canceled at multiple Northeast Ohio schools Tuesday

The most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists flu activity throughout Ohio as “very high.”

FAIRLAWN, Ohio — Does it seem like everybody around you is sick with something?

Flu? COVID? RSV? Norovirus? A cold?

We’re definitely in the midst of sick season — and now a number of schools in Northeast Ohio are closed Tuesday due to illness.

The most recent information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that flu activity in Ohio is currently classified as “very high.”

Here are some of the closures in our area…

ST. HILARY SCHOOL IN FAIRLAWN

This is the message the school shared on Facebook:

St. Hilary School will be closed Tuesday, February 4, with over 20% of students and 15% of staff out due to illness.

Unfortunately, similar illnesses are affecting our community. Our building will undergo disinfection, and we plan to resume operations on Wednesday, February 5. Please stay tuned for any updates.

While basketball practices are still on schedule unless advised otherwise by the coaches, it is important to keep sick children at home. We thank you for your cooperation in our efforts to prevent the spread of illness and ensure everyone’s prompt recovery.

COVENTRY LOCAL SCHOOLS

The district posted news of the closure on Facebook, saying it’s “because of a lack of available bus drivers due to unusually high number of seasonal illnesses.”
