ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – It continues to be a big weekend for Central Florida’s tourism district.
In addition to the grand opening of Epic Universe, Collect-A-Con was also happening just down the street at the Orange County Convention Center.
People came to Collect-A-Con to get their hands on collectibles ranging from classic Pokémon cards to one of the hottest new trends: Labubu.
The Labubu has been taking social media by storm, with part of the fun being the grand reveal of which Labubu is inside the box.
“One Collect-A-Con attendee expressed their excitement by saying, ‘It’s exciting — it’s like a little kid moment. They’re just so fluffy and they remind me of little kid teddy bears and so cute.’
Many people are on the hunt for the rare Labubu which is reportedly in every one out of 72 boxes.
Daniel Moreno, the owner of Poke’ Man Dan’s Buy, Sell, Trade, mentioned that the collectibles were priced at $150 and above, with some particularly sought-after ones in the ‘Big Into Energies’ collection reaching up to $400. He described them as black with rainbow teeth, emphasizing how cute they are.
Moreno said everything about the Labubu is an experience and said it’s rare to see a trend like this create such a frenzy.
“It’s not that often; you may have had Funkos before, or the book bags but this is like an extreme level where everybody wants it,” Moreno said.
But it wasn’t just Labubus everyone was after.
In Altamonte Springs, Ryan Rosensweig operates C10 Toys and Games. His current best-selling items are Funkos and video games, with Game Boy games standing out as the top seller at the moment.
“The trend has definitely changed over the years,” Rosensweig said.
He said it’s great to see people come together to bond over collectibles.
“I mean, at the end of the day, all of this is just for the community,” Rosensweig said. “So the more that we can get to do this better, I think there should be more shows around here that we can actually enjoy together.”
