CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for multiple Northeast Ohio counties.
A weather alert is currently active for Ashland, Holmes, Richland, and Wayne counties until 2:30 a.m. on Friday. Previously, an advisory for sections of Stark and Summit counties had ended at 11:15 p.m. on Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the region has already received 1-3 inches of rainfall, and there is a possibility of up to an additional half-inch. Earlier on Thursday, severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for various parts of the area, with northern Carroll County also being under a flash flood warning until 8:30 p.m.
Areas such as Mansfield, Wooster, and Ashland are at risk of flooding. Authorities are advising motorists to steer clear of flooded roads whenever possible and to practice the safety motto “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering waterlogged areas.
According to the 3News Weather Team, “rain could be heavy at times in some storms, but more likely than not these rain and rumbles won’t cause too many problems. Expect showers to hang around on Friday and there could even be a few that sneak into Saturday. Overall, our weekend forecast features improving conditions.”
