Officials say approximately 50% of the structure was involved in the fire. Two people were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation.
TALLMADGE, Ohio — Crews were on the scene of a residential fire in Tallmadge on Wednesday morning.
As per a statement shared on Facebook by the Tallmadge Police Department, a fire incident led to the shutdown of Northeast Avenue from Community Road to Barnes Drive.
Reports from Tallmadge law enforcement officials relay that various agencies such as Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Brimfield, Kent, and Mogadore swiftly reacted to the situation at 457 Northeast Avenue.
Deputy Chief Benjamin Stasik said the call for the fire came in before 9 a.m., and the fire was mostly inside the building.
Officials say it started downstairs and moved to the upper level. While the roof remains intact, approximately 50% of the structure was involved.
Emergency services transported two individuals to a local medical facility due to smoke inhalation. Among them was a passerby who entered the premises to offer assistance, while the other was the homeowner. Additionally, one occupant was rescued but declined medical aid.
Stasik also confirmed one of the tenants had seven cats; five died in the fire and two survived.
