BAY LAKE, Fla. – Disney’s Hollywood Studios is making changes as The Muppets are being relocated within the park. Before their move to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy one of the longest-standing attractions in the park.
In preparation for the new Monsters Inc. land, Disney has announced the phased closure of the Grand Avenue area, starting in May. The final day to dine at Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will be on May 10.
Following that, MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close on June 7.
One of the park’s earliest attractions, MuppetVision 3D, which debuted in 1991, is among the attractions that will be affected by these changes. Interestingly, it was one of Jim Henson’s final projects before he passed away.
As the transformation moves forward, Disney says teams are exploring ways to preserve the MuppetVision 3D film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.
In the Friday announcement, Disney did not reveal when the final rides at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will take place. According to Disney, the Sunset Boulevard coaster’s new theme will have Muppets “teaming up some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.”
