Eddy Road in Cleveland is currently closed near the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway due to a serious crash that occurred late on Friday night. Officials from Cuyahoga County disclosed that one of the vehicles involved was trying to evade sheriff’s deputies before the accident.
Jennifer Ciaccia, a spokesperson for the county, stated that deputies made an attempt to pull over the car on East 9th Street in Cleveland at approximately 9:45 p.m. The car chose to flee and proceeded onto Interstate 90, driving for several miles before trying to exit at Eddy Road where it collided with another vehicle.
The Cleveland Division of Fire confirms its crews extinguished flames from two vehicles just before 10 p.m. — one at the beginning of the on-ramp from Eddy Road to I-90 east and another at the base of the wall just east of Eddy and south of the ramp. Firefighters have since left the area, but Eddy and the ramps remain closed, although traffic on the Shoreway is moving as normal.
Cuyahoga County authorities have not confirmed if the suspect vehicle was being pursued by deputies at the time of the wreck. Details regarding possible injuries have also not been released.
