ORLANDO, Fla. – In a celebration of furry friendships and community spirit, thousands gathered at Lake Eola Park for the 31st annual “Paws in the Park” festival.
The festival was hosted by the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando and is considered the largest pet festival in the country.
At the heart of the festival is a mission to support Pet Alliance’s vital work in the community. As a nonprofit organization, it relies on events like “Paws in the Park” to fund its operations, which include sheltering, educating, and facilitating adoptions for pets in need.
“Seeing the community rally behind us is incredibly rewarding,” said Steve Bardy, executive director of Pet Alliance. “We don’t receive taxpayer funding, so these events are crucial for our continued success.”
The festival marks a significant milestone for Pet Alliance, which has faced adversity in recent years. A devastating fire destroyed its original adoption center three years ago.
Construction is underway on a new, state-of-the-art shelter, set to open in February 2026. The 25,000-square-foot flagship facility will provide enhanced care for cats and dogs, featuring both indoor air-conditioned spaces and outdoor areas.
For Kennedy Marshall and Maxwell Schnur, attendees who are considering expanding their family with a new pet, events like “Paws in the Park” offer a chance to connect with potential companions at the adoption spots.
“Finding the right fit is like putting together puzzle pieces,” said Marshall. “When it all comes together, you know you’ve found your perfect match.”
The success of “Paws in the Park” highlights the power of community support in making a difference for pets and their families.
