First look inside new Humane Society of Summit County building in Akron

The Humane Society of Summit County has moved from Darrow Road in Twinsburg to their new shelter at 752 West Portage Trail in Akron.

AKRON, Ohio — Recently, the Summit County Humane Society relocated its operations to a newly acquired 25,510 square-foot facility located at 752 West Portage Trail in Akron.

3News’ Candice Hare was there Tuesday morning where Director of Operations Kristin Branagan showcased what the new facility has to offer since they moved there in November.

“We have natural light throughout the whole building,” she said. “The dogs have double-wide kennels. They’re in small, little pods so nobody faces each other. Being stress-free was number one in our care trying to see how we can give the animals of Summit County the best home possible.”

Branagan said the stress level of the animals is significantly decreased in a building like this, which she said also means they’re healing faster.

“We do take in a very vulnerable population, so now with this facility we’re able to house them appropriately, have the medical care onsite that we need and we’re able to get the animals into their homes much quicker,” Branagan said.
