BARBERTON, Ohio — The Barberton Fire Department has confirmed that one person died after a tree fell on a house on Tuesday.

Authorities received a report around 11:45 a.m. about a tree collapsing onto a residence on Second Street close to Wooster Road. The residence was believed to be split into a minimum of three individual apartments.

Upon the fire department’s arrival, neighbors informed them of the possibility of someone being trapped inside the residence beneath the fallen tree. Upon entering the affected section, firefighters discovered a deceased individual.

The Barberton Fire Department requested heavy machinery to aid in lifting the tree, which unfortunately took two hours to arrive. The process of removing the tree from the residence took about 45 minutes with the help of removal companies.

The tree was removed and the Summit County Medical Examiner was called to the scene. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
